The new life which the refurbishment projects provided for buildings which contribute so much to the appearance of this corner of the Butts should also be recognised as a significant element in the regeneration of the Belper conservation area. Great care has been taken with the buildings external appearances to preserve the evidence of their past history. The techniques employed in the repairs ensure that appropriate conservation standards have been achieved.
Matthew Smith Alms Houses consist of two blocks of accommodation for residents, Broadhurst House and the Matthew Smith Alms Houses (otherwise known as 25/25a).
